Student Spotlight: Jethro Pugh, Full-Tuition Scholarship Recipient
AIM Business School had the privilege of awarding three full-tuition scholarships for our MBA last year to individuals that demonstrated exceptional professional achievements, commitment to personal development, and eagerness to make a positive contribution to their communities as leaders and role models.
We are excited to shine a spotlight on one of these recipients: Jethro Pugh.
Jethro’s Current Work
Jethro is an Operations Manager for Wyndham Tech School whose work strives to provide equitable access to STEM education, particular for underrepresented groups such as First Nations, low socioeconomic, CALD, neurodiverse, and female students.
Wyndham Tech School partners with schools to engage secondary students in project-based activities using technology and processes inspired by our local industry, including Health, Transport and Logistics, Professional Services, Agriculture, Building and Construction. This provides them with the skills they need to flourish in careers of the future.
Some of their recent projects include hosting a STEM Education & Industry Conference to unite and connect students to working professionals and launching an Agritech program where students explore solutions to global food security through systems engineering, entrepreneurship, and hands-on experience with their Smart Farm.
Jethro told us that his aim as a professional is “to bridge the gap between technology and education, creating environments where innovation can flourish.” He said that he sought out a Master of Business Administration to help him “lead diverse teams and design programs that prepare students for the challenges of the future.”
Jethro’s Study Experience at AIM Business School
Now that Jethro’s education journey with AIM Business School has begun, we reached out to him to find out about his experience so far. He said, “The first unit was a great experience both from a content and format perspective.”
Jethro started his study by undertaking one unit, the Art of Leadership. “Taking a single unit was easy to balance alongside my full-time work and personal commitments,” he said. “And the tutorials occurred at times that really supported that balance.”
One great benefit of his MBA study that Jethro highlighted was that he has been able to utilise his learnings immediately. “The tools introduced [in the Art of Leadership], I have been able to put to use almost straight away which has been incredibly useful in my own growth and supporting my team at work.”
Jethro was unsure at first how engaging online study would be, which is a common concern for people who have only experienced traditional in-class learning before. Having not studied in this mode before, he didn’t know whether it would suit his particular needs, but now one unit of study in, Jethro said, “The combination of self-paced learning, online tutorials, and coaching support made for a surprisingly personalised experience, something I hadn’t expected from a fully online course.”
When asked more about his experience with AIM Business School’s support services, Jethro said, “The success coach is a fantastic service. Being able to schedule one-on-one time to discuss assessments at a time that suited me was incredibly helpful. It supplemented the group coaching and tutorials to provide me very a personalised feedback about the work I was producing.”
Jethro’s Next Steps
Jethro has since completed his second unit, Marketing Management, and has just begun Operational Improvement this semester.
“As an operations manager,” he said, “I am excited to understand tools and processes I can put into practice straight away.”
He is making great progress through his studies while maintaining his involvement in a host of exciting projects at Wyndham Tech School. We encourage you all to check out their LinkedIn page to see the good work they are doing in bringing STEM education to young Australians.
AIM Business School is very proud to count Jethro amongst our students and we are excited to see the great work he produces in the future.
